--Our Content Types
What We Publish
We accept four primary content formats. Each has specific requirements around length, sourcing, and tone.
1. News Articles
Timely, factual reporting on events, developments, and issues affecting Nigeria. Must be original reporting with at least two independently verified sources. Inverted pyramid structure preferred. No press releases dressed as news.
600 – 1,200 words · Same-day turnaround preferred
2. Opinion & Analysis
Argued, evidence-based perspectives on current events, policy, or society. Must have a clear thesis, develop a logical argument, and engage with counterpoints. Opinion is labelled clearly and distinguished from reporting. No rants without evidence. 700 – 1,000 words · First-person voice welcome
3.Long-form Features
In-depth investigative or narrative pieces that go beyond the daily news cycle. Strong storytelling, vivid characters, and compelling scenes. Original research required. We especially welcome investigations into corruption, inequality, and underreported communities. 1,500 – 3,000 words · 2–4 week production timeline
4. Explainers & Guides
Clear, accessible breakdowns of complex topics — legislation, economic data, health crises, or technical developments. Written for a general adult audience with no assumed specialist knowledge. Strong use of context, analogies, and structure. 800 – 1,500 words · Subheadings & structure required

Our Guidelines
A great pitch is short, specific, and compelling. Tell us what the story is, why it matters to Nigerian readers right now, and why you’re the right person to write it.
Lead With The Angle, not The Topic
Don't say "I want to write about Nigeria's education system." Say "I want to examine why ASUU strikes keep recurring despite multiple government agreements, using data from the last 10 years."
Tell us why it's timely
Is there a recent event, data release, policy change, or anniversary that makes this the right moment for this story?
Show your access
Do you have sources, documents, or specialist expertise that will make this story authoritative? Tell us upfront.
Keep The Article Short
Two to three sentences on the story idea. One sentence on why you're the right person to write it. That's all we need to make a decision.
